Rip Slyme Su
Ten years into their major-label status (and 15 or so into their career as rappers), Rip Slyme's Good Times is a straightforward compilation of the group's hits as well as a number of notable album tracks. The set opens with the particularly old-school delivery of their first hit, 'Stepper's Delight.'
It moves to 'Zatsunen Entertainment,' built on Blood, Sweat & Tears' 'Spinning Wheel,' before jumping into more samba-based work. They move into more contemporary and more funky material later in the course, with pieces like 'Galaxy' (which could fit easily into a Teriyaki Boyz side project) and the dramatic 'Funktastic Battle' (in combination with Hotei). The group's rap style wandered from old-school vocal deliveries to more pop-oriented melodic work over the years, and Good Times documents that progression as well as a general growth in abilities. The earlier work is what will hook new listeners, with the later works gathering more pop-oriented fans for a deeper dive.
